Plan Your Life Like a Student

Why you should organize your next 15 weeks as a college semester, even if you’re not a student

Do you remember how long a semester felt when you were in school? Well, maybe you’re still in school so you know what I’m talking about. But when a new semester kicked off, it felt like it would go on forever. There were so much promise and opportunity (or in some cases dread if you felt like your classes were going to be hard and drag on forever).

The Syllabus

At the beginning of each semester, what did the teacher give you? Some sort of syllabus I imagine that broke things down into segments or weeks or modules. Just a shorter measurement that was easier to wrap your head around. With the syllabus, you could see exactly how your next 15 (or so) weeks were going to play out. You’d see when the mid-term would be, any major project due dates, and most importantly when the final would take place.

Isn’t this a novel way to approach any 15-week stretch of your life? You knew that there was going to be a lot of work needed to pass your classes, but it was so much easier to swallow when you saw it broken out into weekly segments.

Why Did This Go Away?
