I do the same with tracking sleep with my phone but no alarm set. I use an Oura ring as well as the "Sleep as Android" app.

The poker machine comparison is very real. People can't resist the thrill of seeing what will pop up on their phone at any given time.

Like most habits, if you can improve just before bed and as soon as you wake up, there is a good chance that the rest of the day will improve as well.
